PDF House Plans vs CAD/DWG Files: What Is the Difference?
Understand the difference between stamped PDF house plans and editable CAD or DWG source files, including licensing and modification considerations.
What a PDF house plan is used for
A PDF house plan is easy to open, print, review, and share with a builder or professional team. It is the standard format for many customers who want to understand the design, compare options, and request pricing.
The standard Download House Plan product is a stamped licensed PDF drawing pack unless the product page clearly says otherwise.
- Easy to open on most devices.
- Suitable for professional large-format printing.
- Useful for builder quotation and discussion.
- Protected by single-use licence stamping after purchase.
What CAD or DWG files are
CAD and DWG files are editable source files used by architectural and technical professionals. They can be changed, copied, reused, or adapted into new drawings, which is why they are normally treated differently from a PDF download.
Because editable source files carry higher intellectual property risk, CAD or DWG files are not automatically included with standard downloadable PDF products.
If you need changes
If you need room changes, site-specific adaptation, or a customised layout, request custom design or modification support instead of assuming the PDF includes editable source files.
CAD or source-file access may be offered later as a premium add-on under stricter licence terms, but customers should rely on the product page and licence terms for the exact package included.
